Can I use Lecithin with Lysolecithin?
Works well together
Lecithin and Lysolecithin are generally compatible and can be layered in the same routine. As always, introduce one new active at a time and watch how your skin responds.
LecithinEmollient
- ✓Stabilizes emulsions
- ✓Supports delivery of actives
- ✓Conditions skin with phospholipids
- ⚠Soy-derived forms may not suit those with soy allergies (typically at low cosmetic concentrations, risk is very low)
LysolecithinEmollient
- ✓Effective emulsifier at low concentrations due to single-chain amphiphilic structure
- ✓Improves skin feel and spreadability of formulations
- ✓Structurally similar to skin's own phospholipids for good skin compatibility
- ⚠At high concentrations may act as a mild surfactant and disrupt barrier lipids — typically used at low levels (0.1–2%)
- ⚠Derived from soy or egg; those with soy/egg allergies should patch-test (though topical sensitization is rarely reported)
