Lime Extract is derived from the fruit of Citrus aurantifolia (Key lime or Persian lime). It provides vitamin C, limonoids, flavonoids, and organic acids (citric, ascorbic). Used in skincare as an antioxidant and brightening agent. The extract format is far less phototoxic than lime essential oil (which contains bergapten), but the same general caution about citrus photosensitivity applies at higher concentrations.
10
An extract from the flowers of Prunus serrulata (Japanese cherry / sakura), used for antioxidant and brightening properties; distinct from the leaf extract and the yeast fermentation filtrate entries already in the KB.
12
Lily Extract in cosmetics is typically derived from the flowers of Lilium species (especially Lilium candidum, the Madonna lily). The extract provides polysaccharides with humectant and soothing properties, flavonoids with mild antioxidant activity, and mucilaginous compounds associated with skin softening. Used in cleansing and conditioning formulas as a gentle botanical active for soothing and skin-brightening.
13
An extract from the alpine flower Leontopodium alpinum (edelweiss), rich in bisabolane, luteolin, and chlorogenic acid, prized in cosmetics for its potent antioxidant and skin-soothing properties.
14
An extract from the flowers of the sacred lotus (Nelumbo nucifera) rich in flavonoids and tannins with antioxidant, soothing, and mild brightening properties.
15
A generic extract of rose petals or rosehips used for soothing and antioxidant benefits; the exact species varies by product (commonly Rosa damascena or Rosa canina).
16
Orange Peel Extract is a generic INCI designation for an extract derived from the peel (flavedo and albedo) of orange fruit (Citrus sinensis or Citrus aurantium). The peel is particularly rich in flavonoids (hesperidin, nobiletin, tangeretin), limonoids, and carotenoids with antioxidant and anti-inflammatory activity. Used in cleansing and brightening formulas as an antioxidant botanical.
22
An antimicrobial tea tree essential oil used for blemish-prone skin that can irritate or sensitize.
26
The stable ester form of vitamin E that converts to active tocopherol in skin; a common, shelf-stable antioxidant.
