Full ingredient breakdown
3
A polyphenol-rich antioxidant that also calms skin.
4
Fucoidan-rich extract from Cladosiphon okamuranus, an Okinawan brown algae (mozuku). Fucoidan binds to water molecules to boost skin hydration and has documented anti-inflammatory activity, making it effective for sensitive or dehydrated skin.
6
A licorice-root-derived salt that calms inflammation and soothes irritated, reactive skin.
12
Extract from rice bran (the outer layer of the rice grain). Rich in ferulic acid, oryzanol (a mixture of phytosterol ferulates), tocotrienols, and ceramide precursors. A core Japanese beauty ingredient with antioxidant and mild brightening properties.
14
A cysteine protease enzyme extracted from the papaya fruit (Carica papaya). Used in cosmetics as an enzymatic exfoliant: it cleaves peptide bonds in denatured keratin, dissolving dead skin cell buildup without mechanical abrasion. Produces a smoother, brighter complexion and aids cell turnover. However, papain carries a well-documented sensitization risk — peer-reviewed research confirms it disrupts tight junction proteins and can induce IgE-mediated allergic responses even at low concentrations (1 µg/ml in vitro). Sensitization is partly independent of enzymatic activity, meaning inhibited papain retains allergenic potential. Cross-reactivity with latex and tropical fruits is documented. Avoid on broken, compromised, or sensitized skin. Not appropriate for daily use.
18
A fermented-rice filtrate rich in amino acids and antioxidants that brightens and softens skin.
25
Vitamin E; a lipid-soluble antioxidant that also conditions skin.
