Every ingredient SkinAtlas knows about — all 2178 of them. What each one does, what it works well with, and what to watch for.
Alpha-lipoic acid, a fast-acting antioxidant that is both water- and fat-soluble, letting it work throughout the skin to neutralize free radicals.
Extract from the combined flowers and leaves of Thymus vulgaris (common thyme); distinct INCI from the leaf-only extract, providing a richer bioactive profile from both plant organs.
Vitamin E; a lipid-soluble antioxidant that also conditions skin.
The stable ester form of vitamin E that converts to active tocopherol in skin; a common, shelf-stable antioxidant.
Tocopheryl Linoleate is an ester formed from tocopherol (vitamin E) and linoleic acid (omega-6, C18:2). It combines the antioxidant functionality of vitamin E with the barrier-repair properties of linoleic acid in a more stable form than either free ingredient. Upon skin application, skin esterases hydrolyze the ester bond to release free tocopherol and linoleic acid. Used in premium creams and serums as an antioxidant emollient with a favorable essential fatty acid profile.
The phosphate ester of tocopherol (vitamin E). Water-soluble, making it suitable for water-based formulations. Converts to free tocopherol in the skin, providing antioxidant protection.
A form of vitamin E (tocotrienol forms: alpha, beta, gamma, delta) with unsaturated side chains. More potent free radical scavenging than tocopherols. Rice bran is one of the richest natural sources. Used in Bijin Nuka's rice-based moisturizer.
The tocotrienol forms of vitamin E (alpha, beta, gamma, delta-tocotrienol) that are structurally similar to tocopherols but with an unsaturated phytyl tail. Found in rice bran, palm oil, and annatto. More potent free-radical scavengers than tocopherols.
Extract from Tricholoma matsutake (matsutake pine mushroom), a prized ingredient in Japanese and Korean beauty. Provides antioxidant beta-glucans and skin-conditioning amino acids.
An extract from the germ (embryo) of Triticum vulgare (common wheat), concentrated in tocopherols, phytosterols, and fatty acids; provides antioxidant and conditioning benefits. Distinct from Triticum Vulgare Seed Extract (whole seed) and Triticum Vulgare Germ Oil.
An extract from the Italian white truffle (Tuber magnatum), rich in antioxidants, essential fatty acids, and vitamins, used in premium skincare for anti-aging, hydration, and radiance.
An extract from the pollen spikes of Typha angustifolia (narrow-leaf cattail / Pu Huang), a TCM herb; contains flavonoids such as isorhamnetin and typhaneoside with antioxidant and anti-inflammatory activity.
Extract from Ulva lactuca (sea lettuce), a green marine alga. Contains ulvan polysaccharides, vitamins, and minerals with moisturizing and antioxidant properties. Used in Bijin Nuka's moisture cream.
An extract from Usnea barbata (old man's beard lichen); contains usnic acid, a natural dibenzofuran derivative with pronounced antimicrobial, antioxidant, and anti-inflammatory properties, used in botanical skincare.
An extract from the fruit of the cranberry (Vaccinium macrocarpon) rich in proanthocyanidins, anthocyanins, and polyphenols that provides antioxidant and anti-inflammatory benefits to skin.
An extract from the fruit of Vaccinium vitis-idaea (lingonberry) rich in anthocyanins, flavonoids, and vitamin C providing antioxidant, brightening, and anti-inflammatory benefits.
An extract from vanilla (Vanilla planifolia) fruit pods rich in vanillin and phenolic antioxidants, used for antioxidant protection and skin conditioning.
Fermented grape juice — the fermentation process increases the bioavailability of grape polyphenols including resveratrol and anthocyanins. Used in Tunemakers' peeling lotion for its antioxidant and brightening properties.
Extract from Vitis vinifera (grapevine) leaves; distinct INCI from grape seed or fruit extract. The leaf fraction is notably rich in proanthocyanidins and quercetin glycosides for antioxidant and firming benefits.
Extract from the seeds of Vitis vinifera (European grape). Exceptionally concentrated in oligomeric proanthocyanidins (OPCs), quercetin, and resveratrol. Distinct from Vitis Vinifera (Grape) Fruit Extract — seed extract has higher polyphenol density. Widely used in anti-aging and antioxidant formulas.
A generic extract from the grapevine (Vitis vinifera) plant rich in resveratrol, polyphenols, and flavonoids that provides antioxidant, anti-aging, and soothing skin benefits.
The aqueous distillate or water extract of grape (Vitis vinifera) fruit. Contains water-soluble polyphenols, organic acids, and minerals. Used in Ishizawa's urea lotion for antioxidant and hydrating properties.
A vitamin-C- and polyphenol-rich berry extract used as an antioxidant and conditioning agent.
Extract from fermented grape wine, concentrated to preserve its antioxidant polyphenol complex (resveratrol, quercetin, anthocyanins, tartaric acid). Used in K-beauty exfoliating and brightening formulas as an antioxidant active, most famously in NEOGEN's Bio-Peel Gauze Peeling Wine series.
